Note on Blagojevich: Most everyone is justifiably calling the guy "delusional", David Gergen even calls him "The Idiot."
There's a level of corruption we can still be shocked at: auctioning off a senate seat!
Blago has been under investigation for two or three years, and many are pointing out that he must be aware that he's under surveillance and wiretapped.
That's the delusional part, it's implied. That Blago is beyond knowing he can't get away with the most blatant high profile quid pro quo. Stupid is a word that keeps coming up.
My point to add however: That view is still cynical. If you're going to be corrupt, for god's sake be smart about it. You should have some chance at getting away with it.
The real delusion is, maybe in my idealistic world, that a person with public trust doesn't know what public trust is, and doesn't know what the public good is, and doesn't care to serve it. Shouldn't we a hundred percent expect that innate knowledge of our leaders, or are we so cynical that getting away with it is the lowbar for sanity?
What delusion led a plurality of voters to elect someone who clearly doesn't know right from wrong?
