a screw-up, or not?

Regarding Rick Warren, Andrew Sullivan says:
There were a few times in the campaign when my first reaction was that he had screwed up. In almost every case, he subsequently proved me wrong.
That's the only point in defense of Obama that's made sense to me.

auto industry jobs

USA Today provides a map of auto industry workers, about 3 million, and their distribution across states. Autoworkers include not only assembly jobs but wholesale, supplier, service and dealership jobs.

(I am not sure whether this consists solely of American industry workers or includes foreign car makers. As I've said in a previous post, the foreign and domestic automakers are interdependent, and the failure of an American auto company will have ramifications throughout.)

Message to Dr. Hamid Al-Bayati, Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations:

Journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi expressed the sentiments of millions of Iraqis -- and Americans -- when he cast his shoes at President George Bush. Pres. Bush started an illegal war that has cost the lives of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

Perhaps tossing one's shoes is not considered civilized discourse, but there is no more fitting expression of contempt. Please release Mr. al-Zaidi.
